Friato Project of “Oil” in the Future

We have a great social and environmental responsibility in building a sustainable country. The Friato “Oil” in the Future project comes to further strengthen our environmental practices, raising awareness among our employees and the population of Pires do Rio about the negative impacts caused by the improper disposal of used vegetable oil, promoting educational actions in municipal and private schools and encouraging proper disposal with VDPs (Voluntary Drop-off Points) or “ecopoints” distributed in strategic locations.

The oil collected at the VDPs will be sold for re-refining, later transformed into biofuel, and the money raised from the sale of the oil will be allocated to Social Assistance.

Did you know that 1 liter of used cooking oil can pollute around 20,000 liters of water? Which is approximately what a person consumes in 14 years! (Source: SABESP)

Used cooking oil, when improperly disposed of, is the main responsible for the contamination of water bodies and soil. In homes and businesses, the practice of discarding this material into the conventional sewage network is common. Despite being seemingly harmless, this practice causes impacts ranging from the clogging of building plumbing to the contamination of soil, vegetation, and water, increasing treatment costs at municipal water and sewage treatment plants.

How to dispose of your used cooking oil?

  1. After using the oil for frying, wait for it to cool down and pour it into a container with a lid, such as a PET bottle; use a funnel if necessary;
  2. Use a container with a lid to store the used oil, PET bottles are recommended;
  3. Use a funnel to help pour the oil into the bottle;
  4. Store the container in a dry place and add oil as you use it;
  5. Close the bottle cap tightly to prevent leaks;
  6. When the container is full, you can take it to the collection points.

Together, we reduce the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and help other people!
